Framed Vintage Photo -  14x10

The photo has not been removed from the frame for evaluation.

William Henry Jackson’s "A Crow Indian" is a striking 1902 chromolithograph depicting a solitary, blanket-clad Crow Native American standing in the foreground. Flanked by two dogs, he gazes out at a scene of stark beauty: a teepee, with two horses tethered nearby, set against a backdrop of arid hills.

Produced by the Detroit Photographic Company (later the Detroit Publishing Company), the chromo is a testament to the company’s pioneering spirit. Founded by William A. Livingstone and Edwin H. Husher in the late 19th century, the company would later become renowned for its photochrom prints. Jackson, who joined in 1897, was its most celebrated photographer.

Known for his epic landscapes and portraits, Jackson’s career spanned decades. From documenting the Union Pacific Railroad with A.C. Hull to capturing the majesty of Yellowstone National Park for the U.S. Geological Survey, his work is synonymous with the American West. His meticulous approach, including the use of the time-consuming wet plate process, yielded stunning images that have become iconic.

Today, Jackson’s photographs, including "A Crow Indian," are prized for their historical and artistic significance. As America's fascination with the Old West endures, the value of these images continues to rise.
